Creating Time

With the warmer weather softening our days, we have an inclination to want to do more outside – go for a blade, run, walk, stroll, read under a tree, or enjoy a coffee on a patio.

At the same time, this doing is of a gentler sort. A slowing down to enjoy a bit more of what nature offers us.

It leads me to realize that there is a dichotomy here. On the one hand we want to do more, while on the other we want to slow things down. And time seems to be the ruling factor.

Time is a human phenomenon to give us structure, ease communication and create discipline of sorts. In this regard it is useful. In our culture however, we view time as the enemy. Our language is filled with phrases such as: “There isn’t enough time.", “How am I going to get this all done in time?”, “I’m running out of time.”, “Time is working against me today.”; “I can’t afford the time.”. Quite often our experience is that time is rushing by, limiting our space and our potential to do more, and creating chaos with our sense of ease.

All this angst and yet, time is an illusion. We can create time through our own perception. The next occasion you are feeling as though you do not have enough time and find yourself rushing about, tell yourself “I have all the time I need.” - and feel time slow down for you!

What happens in that moment of choice, is that you slow down your internal clock by shifting your perception. Your focus changes from the future to the present. Living in the ‘now’ of life has tremendous power. By being fully present to the moment you create acceptance for the current circumstances rather than pushing for change, you let go of expectations to create open space for trust, and you flow with the pace of your nature rather than struggling against it. You breathe fully again. You can hear, feel and see yourself more clearly, to make more conscious choices. In practical terms, you create efficiency with your time. In spiritual terms you dance with Divine grace!
